Bank Account Bonuses

Published on October 26th, 2017 | by William Charles

Stacking Savings Bonuses For $600

At the moment Discover has three saving bonuses:

Readers have been successful in getting all three bonuses. You need to open each account separately using the individual promo codes. Each account does require $15,000 or $20,000 in deposits, but there is no minimum deposit length and cumulative deposits worked for one reader. Accounts need to be opened by October 31st and funded by November 15th, so you don’t have a lot of time left if you’re interested. I don’t like to hype deals like this too much, but let’s just say that they don’t come around very often. As always make sure you regularly check out the best bank bonus page for new bonuses.

Does getting all three bonuses require three separate deposits of $15 or $20K each?

• ChaseJuggler says:

I don’t think there’s any data yet on transferring from one Discover account to the other triggering it. I keep bouncing it back to our checking accounts at other banks first just to be safe. It’s been a marathon of ACH transfers and check deposits since we’re using the same $20k for both myself and my partner!

• JL says:

Hope you can help to provide a bit more guidance on how your accomplishing this.

-Did you open all 3 accounts at once?
-Did you use the same login or different logins?
-Any concerns from banks about rapidly moving large sum back and forth between accounts?

• I transferred to AAA and AAII from within Discover. it worked and also worked for other folks on the prior AAA promotion for $100.

No need to transfer out of Discover and back in.

• Rene says:

Transferring between Discover Accounts worked for me. I fnunded the AAA Savings partially with money already held at Discover; the AAII was fully funded by moving 20k directly from the AAA account.

• Kris Sam says:

Does it mean that can I transfer 20k from my bank a/c to Discover savings and keep it for a day and transfer that 20k to discover AAA and keep it for a day and transfer that 20k to discover AAll and keep it for a day and then transfer it back to my bank a/c?

2. T says:

Can I use the same login accounts from Discover for AAA and AAll?

3. scott says:

If I already have a savings account, it sounds like the normal offer is not valid, but the other two are. Do I need to close and reopen to get those 2 account bonuses?

Would you stack all 3 bonuses with one opened account, or would each one require a new account? I am a bit confused since it looks like it requires a code to be entered at account opening.

• NN says:

no need to closed, I have 3 open at the moment, and yes, you can use the same login to all account, mine right now is for all 3 saving and credit card.
if you already had an account with Discover, just sign in, it’ll auto fill the info for you, and the promo code can be entered at the funding step.

hope that helps

4. @Doc – curious as to why you say you “don’t like to hype deals like this too much”? Is it to let people figure out how to string together individual bonuses and not spoon feed them?

5. Jason Hsuing says:

How do you enter two other promo codes at the same time? I entered either AAIIBONUS or AAABONUS and it shows “Oops. That code isn’t valid. Let’s give it another shot.” It appears that AAIIBONUS or AAABONUS does not work anymore.

• dax says:

I assume that this is not working because each sign up has a different link. But not sure because I have not yet signed up myself

• Jatan says:

They are separate accounts and you need to open each one separately from their own promo page. You can use your existing Discover login on the first page — the promo code goes on the funding page

• kirk says:

you open them separately. different codes for different ‘types’ of discover savings. i highly suggest to read each posts and read datapoints on how people went about it. goodluck!

• You need to open a new account each time, made this clearer in the post.

6. Michael says:

Posts like this are just straight deal killers and unnecessary in my opinion. This info/DP are easily available in multiple other posts. No need to blast it like this for all the people with difficulty putting two and two together…

• Chris says:

I’d have to agree with this. I was going through my opening slowuly of all 3, but since I saw this I hurried to open the last one before Discover pulls this off.

• tribeman55 says:

I agree, no idea why this was posted.

• Marco says:

The offers were about to expire in a few days anyway, so extra hype wouldn’t really get them killed early. The bonuses are also all once per lifetime. I think the post is totally fine.. As always, Tur-Prestige is just trying to be help. I really appreciate that.

• anthonyjh21 says:

“Helping” is a slippery slope. This information was in other related DoC comments section.

I understand the goal is to help others and that one may argue it’s selfish to not inform people, but in this specific case the information was already public. Making an actual post about it is in my opinion pulling the spoon out a bit too far. If people read the comments section more frequently they’d get more information. It was there, publicly, for people to see.

It doesn’t matter that the deal is almost over. With this now exposed it may lead to Discover killing the deal before the bonuses are issued. Yes, it might’ve happened anyways, but any exposure is bad exposure and only increases the likelihood of eyes on accounts.

DoC is a valuable part of the community and I’m in no way bashing it. Many times deals are appropriately kept in check by leaving extra data points in the comments and not making a post about it. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this should’ve been one of those times.

• Alex says:

DOC, will you tell these complainers to make their own deals website so that they can not post deals on it? I mean seriously, this is a deals site, on which all of these people get information about deals. And then you post a deal and explain how to make it work, and they complain. Sometimes this community is unreal. Yeah, deals get killed sometimes due to volume/abuse. That’s the nature of the hobby. If no one posted about deals, there’d be very few deals to be bad.

• anthonyjh21 says:

You don’t seem to get it and have a low-level of comprehending this issue for what it really is. That or you just haven’t been around long enough to have an understanding of the history and evolution of this “hobby” over the last few years. Either way, you’re wrong.

I’ll say this once, and only once. When a deal like this is over- exposed, from Discover “clawback” Bank, EVERYONE is vulnerable of clawbacks.

This isn’t about being selfish or an exclusivity club; some deals, for various reasons, simply aren’t scalable and/or potentially cause everyone to lose out because of over-exposure. THIS is something that could impact everyone.

• Alex says:

Are you even listening to yourself? “The issue for what it really is?” Fear over a $200 clawback that isn’t going to happen? Remember when discover wasn’t going to payout the apple pay bonus on gift cards and many months (a year even?) later they said, “ok, nevermind, here’s your cashback”? Your fear is irrational. And even if this single post kills this deal, again, that is the nature of the hobby; it happens. Also, been around longer than most on here I’m sure. Been on slickdeals since early 2000’s.

• anthonyjh21 says:

Appears I’m the only one listening to myself here. You must’ve missed that part when the Discover Apple Pay fiasco happened. Or the Discover Deals Cashback clawbacks happened after people went nuts with the portal dipping. The common thread is that it involved Discover.

You and I can fundamentally disagree about the all or nothing nature of exposing every deal. I look at it on a case-by-case basis.

• Dan says:

I agree.. it was now or never.. I wouldn’t have known about this otherwise.

• The bonuses are once per lifetime. If you’ve already put the pieces together you should have already received $600 in bonuses. If the deal was repeatable I could see your point but in this case I disagree.

Regardless of me posting this isn’t going to last and I’d rather give my readers the best chance of maximizing their bonuses. It is why I said I don’t like hyping these deals too much.

7. RF says:

Does anyone know if passing the deposits through a discover checking checking account first will be a problem? I’ve got a little over $10k in CDs (from another bank) maturing which are already scheduled to be deposited into my discover checking on Nov 1. I can round up another $10k from other accounts and xfer those to my discover checking and then shift the whole $20k from discover checking into the discover savings. Does that seem safe?

8. Jill says:

I already had a Discover Online Savings Account, which was closed in 2015.
“Offer not valid for existing or prior Discover savings customers”
Do they enforce this? any data point.

9. chriis says:

I did one for S817 and another for AAA. Which code can I apply for?

10. Yunwen says:

When I send SM, CSR told me that my current discover saving will disqualify me from AAII saving bonus. So I did not open AAII till now..
But now it is confirmed that AAII with existing Discover normal account are eligible for the bonus?

11. Grandpa says:

I already have regular Discover savings and AAA savings open. Today I just applied for the AAII savings.. was told to call in.. and then was told to upload my driver’s license. Please come back and update us if you can.

I’m also hoping that our promo code for AAII gets properly accepted, because we had to take this extra step.. hope that the promo code didn’t get ‘lost in the system,’ otherwise all of this would just be a complete waste of time.

Also for me the AAII I just applied for isn’t showing up (yet) when I log into Discover. Thanks

12. Pam says:

Thanks for posting this! I had missed the post on the AAII account and was able to do that today for my husband and myself. Yay for another $400 to use on traveling!! The Discover and Discover AAA were easy to apply for earlier and I already received their bonuses.

13. larry says:

Offer codes are “DEAD.” “Oops. That code isn’t valid. Let’s give it another shot.” 4:10 pm

14. LISA says:

Just opened all (3) same time within hour. All codes still working.

15. Son says:

Just open all 3 in about 20mins. Had to call in on the AAII, the other 2 instant online. All codes works. Time now is 2pm / west coast.

Question. The 20k just have to enter the account right? It doesn’t have to stay in there for a certain time frame right? Maybe a day is fine?

• Correct, no minimum length

• Durga says:

I already have Discover normal savings, AAA.. yesterday Tried to open AAII.. application was submitted and got message to call them. (same message for spouse)

did you call them for AAII savings? if yes will they ask why two many savings accounts were opened in short time?
I am hesitating to call them. any help

• Marco says:

When I called Discover yesterday, they grilled me for over 10 minutes about the savings accounts. They even asked me if I read doctorofcredit

The cat is out of the bag! Repeat the cat is out of the bag!

• larry says:

Are you just making that up to get a rise out of people about doc? BTW, I tried to open up new savings account with both bonus codes and neither work for me or so. I keep getting “Oops. That code isn’t valid. Let’s give it another shot.”

16. Chandra says:

Can anyone open the AAA or AAII accounts or do you have to be a member of those groups?

17. RM says:

A newby question for William. For the purposes of the rule of thumb that one should not do more than about 10 bonus offers per year, would these qualify as three separate offers?

18. Gadget says:

Tried to apply for AAA. Got this error:

“We’re Experiencing Technical Difficulties. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties which we are working to resolve as soon as possible. Please try again later. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

My luck they are fixing the “error”of multiple saving bonuses and not allowing new signups. I hope that is not the case.

• Gadget says:

Or, it’s because I was “shutdown” earlier this year, back in Feb, and they blacklisted me. Probably the most likely scenario if nobody else is getting an error. It would be nice if the error was clear, and not just tell me to try back later. I hate Discover. (details of my shutdown are on the hub account page)

Got the same error for AAII.

• phong chau says:

Had the same problem. Applied AAII and got that message. Going to try again tomorrow.

• kirk says:

it errored out on me too when i app the other day. i tried after a few minutes and it worked. could just be a webpage glitch and has nothing to do with anyone’s profile. try a different browser or clear cache. goodluck!

• Gadget says:

Thanks, but it is Discover blocking my SSN. I used the same browser window to sign someone else up, and got farther in the application process. Worked fine. I am thinking about calling to see if I can get it cleared up, but I really do hate Discover and not going to beg.

• kirk says:

hmm weird. someone mentioned this ~ /stacking-savings-bonuses-600/#comment-501611

since you mentioned you don’t wanna beg. here’s an idea to try – use work, a friend or neighbor’s computer/ip to apply. perhaps they are ‘blocking’ your home ip. you can also just spoof your ip. use a (US) proxy server, vpn or something. *google is a friend.

if that, using a diff browser or clearing cache still doesn’t work… then i guess they might have really blacklisted you. i mean they know when people have already gotten the once in a lifetime bonus.. so,,, you might be SOL. anyways, goodluck!

• Gadget says:

Called. First rep tried to tell me my previous accounts were overdrawn. Then, once she reviewed the records, retracted her statement, that they were closed in zero balance. She fwd’ed me to security dept. Security dept said to re-apply for savings, and that the first rep could do the application over the phone.

Did phone app for AAA, using bonus code, and ID verification of phone application failed, just like when I applied online. Rep said I would get a call back by Wednesday on why the application will not go thru.

10 minutes later, got a call from original rep. “At this time, Discover bank chooses not to do business with you”. I asked if there is a time frame so I know when i can reapply… and unfortunately, no, and declined to give me any more information.

• Lee says:

I opened up the AAA accounts under my husband and myself yesterday and transferred funds from our Discover basic personal savings. Went in the morning to initiate another transfer and get the “technical difficulties” error message.

19. Shawn says:

Successfully applied for all three at ~6:30pm pacific. From DPs I’m expecting the AAA and AAII to work, but unsure of the standard account due to my previous savings account with them years ago. We will see. Hopefully my gamble on the third doesn’t bring down my chances for the other two.

• If you had standard before I don’t think it will work, but YMMV

• larry says:

Like I said, if you have a previous account with discover it’s DOA if you tried a current login id. So I guess a work around is trying without your current logon? tia

• Gina says:

Please call us at 1-888-204-9001 (TOD 1-800-347-7454).
When you opened all three did you do anything special to insure they successful opened without intervention? Did you use different IP address for each? Did you use incognito for each? Or anything else? Thanks!

20. Matt K. says:

Already had the regular and AAA previously (myself and wife). Thanks for the heads up DoC! No error in getting AAII to go through for either of us 10 mins ago.

21. vike says:

When I open an account and I want to transfer from another Discover account, what funding option should I pick if the system doesn’t see the other Discover account? All the options involve sending checks or transfering money from non-Discover account.

• kirk says:

do this ~

if yours really look different, then idk what’s going on.

• Jatan says:

I would open the account with zero balance just to get the account opened by the 10/31 deadline — you have until 11/15 to actually fund it.

Select option for “Log in Later and schedule an ACH” — after that they’ll ask about source of the funds and you can select “My bank account”

22. NBG says:

A very nice $1200 haul between me and SO.

23. Kickku says:

All of my applications were requested to upload verification documents like License.
First I’ve applied AAII account and was able to processed by telephone rep successfully. Later I’ve applied AAA and regular savings account one after other, the rep couldn’t able to help me this time except stating upload proof of identity. After uploading it and I called this morning and the rep is able to find only one active application for AAA online savings account and regular savings account is cancelled.

I’m confused whether or not to apply regular savings again or have to hold till AAA savings acct is issued. They’re stating it will take 3 to 5 business days to process the application.

Can someone confirm by eligibility of getting bonus if I apply the account today and even if it is opened after 10/31 I’ll get the bonus after depositing 20K?
Technically I’ve applied and meet the requirement of the offer, opening account is pending at discover end.
Can someone confirm by eligibility of getting bonus if I apply the account today and even if it is opened after 10/31 I’ll get the bonus after depositing 20K?
I don’t think anyone can give you the assurance except a Discover representative, their calls are supposedly monitored and recorded. Take note of the name of rep and time of call. If they tell you that date today will be considered as opening date of the account and you have until 11/15 to deposit the funds to meet the bonus, then just relax and wait for your bonus to post. If you don’t get your bonus within the period they stated, that’s the time to follow up with them. Good luck!

25. Elena says:

Just applied for AAII for my spouse (already had the other two opened). Thank you for posting the deal!

26. HarryTheFirstHarry says:

If anyone getting the below message, first try a different browser. If still getting the same message, try this: Go to the Discover Credit card login page (even if you do not have a disc card). Select banking from the various options at the bottom of the page and login from there. Then this should work.
“We’re Experiencing Technical Difficulties. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties which we are working to resolve as soon as possible. Please try again later. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

Also if doing all 3 accounts for different family members sharing the same postal address and from the same IP address, use different browsers. Assign one PC and broswer for each family member and always use only that PC and browser for that family member to access the account even after it is opened. Appears cookies are set per user per browser and if another tries to login it either blocks the account or gives the technical difficulties message depending on maybe other factors as well, but this becomes one reason to block.

• Freddy says:

Thanks for the tip. Tried opening with the same browser that I applied for the AAA bonus in which I had to call in to confirm the application and this time got the error message you mentioned.

Went to a different browser and the application went through without any problems, this time it even gave me the new account number on the last page along with confirmation of the bonus being added, didn’t have to call in.

27. Waldo Bastian says:

Was able to open all 3 accounts online within the last hour without problem. Got account numbers right away. Getting a confirmation code via SMS to confirm phone number took longer than I had patience but I was able to skip that step. Smooth experience so far.

28. trifecta guy says:

Quick question I’ve read all the comments on all 3 posts and didn’t find it. I understand if you get all 3 types dp’s show you get all bonuses. If I currently have a discover savings if I apply for the regular savings will I get the bonus again according to dp’s? Or will I just get aaa and aaii since I had regular before? Thank you in advance.

29. kirk says:

no, you won’t get the bonus.

30. Bill says:

I signed up for all 3 accounts within about an hour early morning on Friday Oct 27. I got a message saying application submitted, will be in process for 2 business days. No account numbers, no confirmation e-mails for applications’ submissions, no nothing. Is this normal? Should I call Discover and ask the reps? This is my first Discover product other than being an authorized user so I don’t even have Discover log-in. I didn’t want to draw extra attention via calling but if I wait till the end of 2nd business day that’ll be really close to deadline and people are mentioning they got account numbers on confirmation page which makes my situation unusual. No?

31. Kikku says:

I applied all the three applications same time and all went to document verification on 10/27. Now only one is processed and rest two were cancelled. Telephone rep advised me to re-apply and I got the application confirmation numbers again today.
Fingers crossed whether these two will be processed or one will get cancelled again.
Any one in this situation applied more than one application and processed one account number provided and rest are cancelled.
Is it something only one application can be processed by discover at a time?

• Diomaiuti says:

Not that it matters now, but… Applied for all 3 back to back late Sunday night/early Monday morning. Had to call in for all 3. First one was opened with CSR’s help, and I got the account number, second one the CSR (different one) insisted it had to be reviewed for a few days before being approved (or not), third one I didn’t bother calling in.

Then I saw your note here and re-applied for the 2nd later in the day with automatic approval, then waited 8-10 hours and did the same for the 3rd, again successfully. So thanks for that! I don’t know if I would have pursued anything beyond the AAII given the short time frame for opening. I hope the first app for each was just canceled as an apparent duplicate and doesn’t come back to bite me later, e.g., “This is the *2nd* AAA acct you opened, so no bonus!”

We shall see…

32. Frank says:

Quick question – so if we want all 3 and have this happen by the deadline, we could potentially have $60K in play all at once?

• Jatan says:

No requirement for money to stay in the account — you can keep $20k in first account for a day or two and move it to the next account for a day or two and then finally move it to the last account for a day or two

33. JuicyJosh says:

Sometimes I will never understand how these bank approval systems work. I must say I do love Discover’s online application system. Easy and fast. A lot of other banks could learn many lessons from them.

Myself – evil bank bonus villain whoring myself out to any bank for money
Applied and approved for all 3 accounts on Friday. Account numbers received.

Spouse – sweet innocent SO who lets me use her as an individual applicant
Successfully approved for regular savings. Pending DL verification for AAA. Also received call in message upon completion of AAII application.

34. DirtyLilRat says:

Is the routing number the same for all these accounts?

35. E says:

Could I still do this today?

36. cm says:

Does anyone know how long the approval + transfer times take? In other words, for those starting today, can one get 3 transfers from the 1st to the 2nd then to the 3rd by the Nov 15 deadline?

Also, for those couples without $40k handy (only $20k), can you do 10k to one for each of husband and wife, then bounce to 2 for each spouse, then bounce to 3 for each spouse…now both spouses have had 10k deposited into all three…then do another “lap” (getting 20k deposited into all three), by the deadline?

I know this wouldn’t work with three separate banks becaue each transfer takes 3 business days at least, but sometimes intra-entity transfers are essentially instant. (And yes, this is really pushing the envelope, I know!)

• JuicyJosh says:

Based on DPs above – no problem. Especially with 20k. Read up. Although not required a good hub account with 1 day ACH transfers doesnt hurt either.

• Logmein Gn says:

If it were to my own account I add it as an external account and transfer.
How do you generally transfer such huge amount to your spouse?

37. Go for broke? says:

After 2 successful applications (Discover Savings and AAII), I ran into the “Please call us” message at Step 4 with AAA. I’m debating whether to call in (and draw eyes to my 3 applications) or just be happy with my 2 successes… decisions… decisions… I’m open to opinions.

• tinytavosa says:

got this message for AAA and AAII after successfully opening the basic savings account. Did you end up calling? I am overseas and so calling will be a hassle but may be worth it depending on why they wanna talk… thanks for any info.

38. Mike says:

Sorry. I just saw this post. Can anyone please confirm if I can still apply this online

39. Lincoln says:

I just transferred funds from a non-discover account yesterday. They showed up today yet there is no option to transfer between Discover accounts. Do I need to let the funds “settle” before transfering them to other Discover accounts?
